Candidate invites 45th Ward neighbors to an evening of community and conversation

CHICAGO — Leah Cunningham Pouw, candidate for 45th Ward alderperson, will kick off her summer campaign Wednesday, July 1, at Tatas Tacos, 4929 W. Irving Park Road, in Portage Park.

Doors open at 4:30 p.m., and the event begins at 5 p.m. The get-together is free, open to the public, and family-friendly.

The event will bring neighbors together to grab a bite, meet the candidate, and learn how to get involved in a campaign focused on putting the people of the 45th Ward first.

“Summer is when the 45th Ward really comes alive, and I can’t think of a better way to kick off our campaign than by spending an evening with the neighbors I’m fighting for,” Pouw said. “Come say hello, bring the kids, and let’s talk about what we can do together.”

Pouw is a Wildwood resident who pairs more than 25 years of experience advocating for Illinois children and families with a master’s degree in public policy from the University of Chicago — earned on a full scholarship while raising two young children. She is running to bring new, collaborative leadership to a ward she says has gone too long without an alderperson who truly listens.

The next Chicago municipal elections are scheduled for February 23, 2027.
